South of Anchorage 45 mi on the Seward Highway take a left at the Portage Valley Highway turnoff. Campground is located on the right 3 mi down the Portage Highway, AK

mountain viewWith an elevation of 80 feet, the campground is a small single loop across the road from Portage Creek in a stand of mixed spruce and alder and in the shadow of Explorer Glacier. Although there are no views of the creek or glacier from the campsites, sites are tucked back in the trees providing good privacy and a nice forest camping experience. Possible day trips from the campground are the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, the town of Whittier, Portage Glacier, Begich-Boggs Visitor Center, Wiliiwaw Salmon Viewing Area and Bryon Glacier.
