Tips for Renting an RV

An RV vacation is a great opportunity to explore at your own pace. For those who do not own an RV, consider renting one. This can be a means of ‘testing the waters’ or the first step towards a future purchase.

When renting, there are several key points to consider. Choosing the appropriate size is the first important step. Consider the number of people traveling, the length of the trip and the amount of luggage you’ll need to transport. Although you’ll be hoping for good weather all trip, be sure to consider the fact that you might be confined to the RV for an extended time if you run into bad weather.

Try to determine a meal plan for your time on the road. Whether you’re planning on dining out every meal, cooking over a campfire, or preparing meals in your RV, your plans factor into the type of RV you should rent. Consider the kitchen space needed, including a sink for washing dishes when you’re making your rental decision.

Cost is always a factor when planning any type of vacation. Factor in the length of your trip, gas costs, grocery costs and campground fees. Don’t forget to include any mileage fees the rental company might charge.

Consider researching some overnight spots in advance. Be sure to inquire about site sizes. You’ll need to be sure that your rental vehicle can easily be accommodated at any of the places you intend to stay.

Last, but not least, be sure that your rental company provides information on any maintenance that they will cover, should you run into issues on the road. Also check with your auto insurance company to see what additional coverage they might offer for your rented RV.
