Tips for a Quick Getaway

Getting away for a quick RV trip can sometimes feel as difficult as packing up for a month long venture. Consider these ideas for making your quick get-away actually ‘quick’.

Try to bring only what you need. This seems obvious, but many folks forget this simple rule. This is particularly important in the kitchen. If you’re not planning on grilling at all, don’t take the barbeque or the charcoal. Consider looking for meals that are easily cooked on your indoor stove. There are plenty of ‘one-dish’ meals that are easy to cook, delicious and nutritious. Go really simply for your breakfast and lunch menus. Plan on cereal and milk for breakfasts and simple sandwiches for lunch.

Do not bring much in the way of clothing. Bring only one extra set in case of a mishap. If you’re unsure of the weather, pack in layers so that you can adjust depending on the temperature. Bring travel size toiletries and consider sharing items with the whole family including toothpaste and shampoo. If you’re only gone for a couple of days you won’t need much of any particular item.

In striving to be efficient, do not skimp on items that are necessary for health and safety. If you’re planning on hiking, be sure you have an adequate water supply. Don’t forget items like sunscreen and a first aid kit.

Some families have their RV always prepared with the bare minimums for a quick getaway. If you’re in the position to do so, it’s great to have some of the standards always packed and ready to go. If you go this route, make sure you replenish at the end of each trip to prevent a future mishap.

With some proper planning, your quick trip will go off without a hitch.
