The Basics of Planning an RV Getaway

Now is the time for you to plan your perfect road trip. You have the RV of your dreams, and you’re ready for life on the open road. If you’ve never taken a full-fledged road trip, you are in for a treat. Living life on the road, seeing America, can be one of the most memorable moments in your life. If you plan it right, you can have the time of your life and save a few dollars, too.

Budget Accordingly

The key to saving money is budgeting accordingly. If you’re traveling with friends and family, the best way to handle your budget is to have everyone contribute to three different areas: food, gas, and emergency fund. These three areas are always necessary. Depending on the length of the trip, you can have people give up to a couple hundred dollars into the first two departments. Emergency money doesn’t have to be a lot, just enough to pay for a couple new tires and the cost of towing. Anything over that is best put on a credit card to be paid at the end of the month.

Make Sure Not To Overcrowd the RV

RV’s are meant to hold a certain number of guests, and many make the mistake of bringing in too many guests. Cramming and jamming people into the RV won’t create for a fun and comfortable vacation. Keep the number to single digits unless you get an RV that can comfortably sleep more than that.

Make Sure Your Insurance Is Up to Date

You just need to make a simple call to your insurance agent and be clear on everything the policy offers. Make sure you have roadside assistance (yes, you should still have insurance money for towing in case you have a situation where towing might take too long through the insurance company) and liability insurance so you’ll be covered if an accident occurs while you’re parked in a camping area.

These are just a few of the tips you can use to keep your vacation a pleasant one. Planning ahead will help you avoid crowding, money issues, and unexpected emergencies.  Every trip can be fun if you plan for it effectively.
