Popular Accessories for your RV

A well appointed RV has all the necessities, but what are some of the most popular accessories for RV owners to add?

If your RV does not already have one, an awning is the most important accessory. It offers protection from the sun and rain. Be sure to purchase a model that is constructed of mildew-resistant fabric. It is important to purchase a good quality awning because you’ll likely use it daily. In general, a good awning costs anywhere from $100-$900, depending on the size.

A rear view trailer level is important, particularly for owners of a fifth wheel. When attached to the front of the trailer in sight of the rearview mirror, you’ll be able to tell whether the trailer is level without needing a spotter. These generally cost between $15-$20.

No RV owner should be without a box of disposable gloves. When dealing with your various hook-ups including sewer hoses and hook-ups that have been attached to someone else’s sewer tanks, it just makes sense. A box of good quality gloves can be purchased at any store that has a pharmacy.

Speaking of sewer hook-ups, be sure to carry a spare sewer hose. Having an extra one on hand in case of leakage or damage is a life-saver.

Although you might already have a 25 foot extension cord, don’t rely on that being enough. Purchase a 50 foot, 30 amp extension cord for those occasions when the shorter cord just won’t reach. Nothing is more frustrating than having to change spots or re-level because your cord just doesn’t reach.

Consider adding a 12 volt crock pot to your gear. It plugs into your cigarette lighter and holds about 1.5 quarts. Enjoy the freedom of having a home cooked meal without having to work over the stove or grill.

When purchasing any accessory that is specifically for an RV, shop at an RV supply store or a camping store to make sure you’re getting a product that will work well and stand the test of time.
