Gulf State Park – Lake Zip Tour

Visitors to the Gulf State Park Lake in Alabama will have something new to look forward to by next spring. A zip line eco tour is being installed within the Lake Shelby Picnic area. The zip line attraction will include a series of seven zip lines, several of which will traverse over the water.

Visitors will first attend a training session to become equipped with the necessary protective gear and to learn how to successfully navigate the attraction. Guests will start at the lake store and will end 100 yards from shore, walking back along a pier when they have completed the course. The last zip will be over 1,155 feet in length. Guests will need to set aside a few hours to enjoy the entire course. The attraction is sure to offer guests a very thrilling experience.

Construction is scheduled to begin sometime mid-October for the attraction which is to be named “The Hummingbird”. The picnic area will be closed during the construction. Currently it is estimated that the attraction will be completed by March 1st, but it may be open as early as mid-February.

The company that has contracted to build the attraction is also planning for additional activities in the area. Their hope is to create an atmosphere where groups of all ages can come and enjoy themselves at the park. Post construction all of the normal activities will re-open including the picnic, swimming and boating areas.
