Ford F-150 Potential Concept Unveiling

Potential Ford F-150 Concept Unveiling

Ford is planning a surprise unveiling of a concept F-150 pickup truck at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan next month.

The new truck is expected to have an extensive use of aluminum construction. It also has redesigned some of the basic components like axles and brakes with the intention of lowering the overall weight of the vehicle. By cutting 700-750 pounds, the fuel efficiency is raised. The reports suggest that Ford is trying for a 3 mpg increase in fuel efficiency. Currently, the most fuel efficient F-150 offered today is rated at 19 mpg. The actual production of these trucks is slated for late 2014 with their release to the general public coming in 2015.

This unveiling is still unconfirmed for the January show. Ford will, however be launching its E-series full-size van, the Transit. In even more forward looking news, Ford is reported to be working with Toyota on a hybrid powertrain for full size trucks, but production is not a certainty and thus there is no documented timeframe for this project.

2006 was the last time that Ford brought a full size truck concept to an auto show when it previewed the F-250 Super Chief.
