FMCA Southeast Rally Relocating?

FMCA Southeast Rally Relocating?

The Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) may be moving its annual Southeast Area rally to a new location. The rally has been held in Florida at the Brooksville-Tampa Regional Airport for the past 15 years. The event is held each winter and attracts more than 1000 RV owners from all over the south.

Businesses in Hernando County welcome the rally each year and its large population of RV owners. Restaurants, grocery stores and local attractions count on the influx of business during the week long rally. Local government officials are hoping the move does not occur. Part of the issue for the rally organizers is the lack of a permanent structure to use for meetings and entertainment during the event. Previously the rally had access to hangar at the airport, but it is no longer available. This required FMCA to spend thousands of dollars for temporary tents to house the social activities. It is reported that the FMCA is in talks with representatives from the Volusia County Fair Association to explore the possibility of moving the rally to their fairgrounds.

The greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce president Pat Crowley has expressed concerns over the loss of the rally and its impact to the local economy. Hernando county officials are working to explore ways to retain the rally at its current location, including the possibility of obtaining access to another airport hangar or the construction of a building that could be used by both the FMCA and other organizations to host events.
