Campground Raises Funds for Make-a-Wish

Campground Raises Money for Make-a-Wish

Janet Lightner and her husband Todd are the owners of Moyer’s Grove Campground in Wapwallopen, Pennsylvania. After watching a boy’s life change via the Make-a-Wish Foundation, they were impacted as well. A young boy who regularly camped at their facility received a wish to travel to Disneyworld and meet Mickey Mouse. The Lightners saw the impact the wish had on his life and saw how his health began to improve. Today the young man is healthy.

Seeing the impact on the young man’s life made the Lightner’s determined to contribute as well. Since their first fundraising event in 1991, the couple has raised over $204,000 through events they have held at the campground. 2012 was their biggest fundraising year with a total of $28,685 raised.

Make-a-Wish grants wishes for children with life threatening illnesses. They Lightners say they owe their fundraising success to the campers that frequent their campground. With Friday evening fish fry dinners, Saturday morning breakfasts, raffles, duck derbies and various contests, the campground raises funds with a portion of almost every event a the campground going to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
