The Santa Cruz River Valley
The Santa Cruz River Valley in southern Arizona has a lot to offer for the RV traveler. It offers a moderate climate that is comfortable in virtually all seasons. In addition, it has great shopping, a rich history, terrific restaurants and lots of options for activities.
Stop by the church at Tumacacori, a National Historical Park since 1908. It is open year round and offers visitors a chance to explore the church, its outbuildings and a museum by use of a guidebook. It also has a pretty garden for visitors to enjoy. The church was constructed around 1800 by the Franciscans.
Shopping in the area includes a number of great artwork from world renowned artists working in mediums like iron, pottery, oils and watercolors. The Tubac area with its close proximity to the Mexican border means there are lots of choices for those looking for art and other goods from Mexico without having to travel across the border.
Restaurants include upscale options and casual options. Of course many specialize in Mexican cuisine, but there are other selections available as well.
Golfers will find several highly respected courses near the town of Green Valley. Those who enjoy bird-watching will find the Madera Canyon to be a great spot to explore. The Patagonia-Sonoita Preserve at Lake Patagonia State Park is another popular birding destination. Hiking is another popular activity in the area.
There are RV parks in Nogales, Amado and Green Valley as well as in nearby Tucson which can act as a great ‘home base’ for exploring the beautiful Santa Cruz River Valley area.
