Coverage

A motor home or trailer is different from both a car and a home, so the coverage it needs will be a little different from your homeowner’s or car insurance.  Here’s a handy list explaining the different types of coverage in an RV insurance policy, and what each does for you:

Motor Home Personal Property:

This coverage covers your personal items in the RV itself, everything from the clothes on your back to the tennis rackets in the closet.  Most homeowner’s insurance will only cover up to a certain percentage of the policy for incidents that happen off the ranch.  That may be OK if you’re on a short vacation or you aren’t taking many things on your trip, but full-timers and anybody taking a long vacation should have their personal property covered by their RV policy.

Offered by: Good Sam, Camping World, Poliseek, Foremost, and RV Insurance Professionals

Attached Accessories:

Just like your auto insurance won’t necessarily cover your trailer, your RV insurance may not necessarily cover the things attached to it.  So if you’ve got an awning, a TV antenna, a satellite dish, or something else attached to the outside, this is a good coverage to have.

Offered by: Good Sam, Camping World, Poliseek, Foremost, and RV Insurance Professionals

Road Service Insurance:

Just think of this as AAA for your RV.  This coverage will cover any of the smaller problems that’ll keep you off the road: jumpstarts, running out of gas, getting locked out, and all the other little frustrations.  This coverage will at least make sure you don’t have a lighter wallet to go with the headache!

Guaranteed Loss Replacement:

Especially if you’re investing in a new RV, this is coverage you can’t do without.  Guaranteed Loss Replacement will give you a new RV of a similar model for the first five years of the policy, and after that will give you the full purchase price of your RV.  Think of it as a way to stay on the road in case you get totaled.

Offered by: Good Sam, Camping World, Poliseek, Foremost, and RV Insurance Professionals

Full-Timers Coverage:

Aimed at folks who want to live on the open road, this coverage offers such amenities as personal liability, and additional living expenses.  It’s all about making your motor home a home.

Agreed Value Coverage:

If you’ve got a classic RV, this will insure it up to the value agreed on by yourself and a qualified appraiser.  So you’ll know, up front, what you’ll be getting in case of the worst.

Vacation Liability Coverage:

This lets you relax on your vacation.  It covers any bodily injury and property damage caused to others while on your trip.  Just be careful backing in!

Offered by: Poliseek, Foremost, and RV Insurance Professionals

Emergency Expense Coverage:

If your motor home is taken off the road, where would you stay?  This coverage answers that question, by paying for hotel and transportation so no matter where you go, you’ll never be stranded.
